The Oakland Athletics start a three game series with the Florida Marlins tonight at the Big O. There's alot of subplots in coming into a series that the A's must win. Atleast two out of three.

Florida has been the worst team in the league since May 28th, posting a 4-24 record after starting the season 30-20. Florida has had great pitching during that stretch but the offense hasn't been able to pull their weight, scoring one run or less in 15 of the 28 games. Tonight might not be so different.

The Oakland A's have been playing alot better baseball under new manager Bob Melvin. However, there is still much work to be done. The A's are nine games under .500 going into the series, but still remain in the hunt for the American League West. The A's are six games back of Texas at 35-44.

Pitching Match-ups:

Tonight: Gio Gonzales (6-5 2.59 ERA) vs Javier Vazquez (4-7 6.37 ERA)

The A's need to get the bats going on Vazquez early. The way the Marlins have been playing this game could very well come down to which A's offense shows up.

Wednesday: Graham Godfrey (1-1 4.24) vs Ricky Nolasco (4-4 4.44)

This will be a nice test for young right hander Godfrey as he will be coming of a decent start in New York (5.2 innings, 4 runs, 2 earned, loss)

Thursday: Guillermo Moscoso (2-3 2.68 ERA) vs Chris Volstad (3-7 5.42 ERA)

Root Beer Float day at the Ballpark for the fans. Another sweet treat? Yes there is! A's fans get to see Moscoso take the hill coming off a performance against the Philladelphia Phillies (7 innings, 2 hits, no runs) that showed myself, and other A's fans, that he is MLB ready. It will be great to see how he comes out against the Marlins on Thursday.

The way the Marlins bats have been silent the last month I don't see them waking up over the next three games against the pitching staff the A's bring to the table. I do see the A's winning atleast two of three if not a sweep.
