W: Wilson (11-5)
L: McCarthy (5-6)
On a night the A's needed to make a statement, the A's failed to deliver. The A's dropped the first game of a three game series, 9-1 to the Texas Rangers. If the loss wasn't bad enough, CJ Wilson was the winning pitcher for Texas after making comments about the A's fan base.
The crowd of 20,288 showered boos the moment CJ Wilson was announced, from everytime he came and left the mound.
Brandon McCarthy pitched a perfect first inning, but got rocked in the second inning, while allowing the first six hitters to get on base. He gave up five earned runs, on eight hits in three and a third innings. To make the night more difficult he left the game in the fourth inning, after being hit in the right knee by an Endy Chavez line drive.
Texas went up 6-0. That was all CJ Wilson needed as the A's couldn't solve him. The A's could only record five hits, while recording two errors on defense, 94th of the season leads the league. Wilson went six innings, giving up one run, four hits while striking out seven. Wilson's comments made the night even more sour for A's fans.
"It felt like a playoff game", he said, "having the whole stadium against you, all 15 of them".
Endy Chavez went 3-for-4 with two runs in the game for Texas while driving in a run. Michael Young went 2-for-5 in the ballgame as well. Eight Rangers in the line-up scored a run tonight.
The A's offense was quiet throughout the evening and pretty much showed no fire in a game. Connor Jackson went 2-for-4 with the only A's run batted in. Ryan Sweeney, Cliff Pennington, and Josh Willingham each had hits for Oakland.
